The Barney’s FAQ
What’s included with my admission?
Both day passes and season passes get you full access to all 30+ attractions across the Boneyard, the Barnyard, and Boomtown.
Two attractions have a small additional fee:
• Water Wars ($5 for 4 buckets of balloons, runs daily)
• Morse Gemstone Mine ($8.57 per mine, per person, 11am to 4:30pm)
Food and drinks from our on-site food services are separate. You can also bring your own food and drink if you prefer.
Is this just for kids?
Not at all. The park is built for the whole family.
Adults genuinely enjoy it here. The Boneyard’s dino dig and the Boomtown obstacle course work for teenagers and grown-ups. The history side of the park (coal mining stories, the Bleriot Ferry tribute, the Morse Mine) gives older visitors something to dig into. Grandparents come with their grandkids. Adults come without kids. Date day at Barney’s is a thing.
If you like being outside and you’ve got a little curiosity in you, you’ll like it here. And anyway, aren’t we all just kids?
Where are you located?
We’re at Highway 838 West, North Dinosaur Trail, in the Drumheller Valley (Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y0).
From the Royal Tyrrell Museum, head west on Highway 838 for about 7 minutes (just past the Go-Karts). We’re in the heart of the Canadian Badlands.
What time are you open?
2026 Season Hours
June 13 to 28: Weekends only, 9am to 5pm
June 29 to August 30: Daily, 9am to 5pm
Canada Day (July 1): Special hours 2pm to 8pm
Wednesdays, July 15 to August 26: Extended evening hours until 8:30pm (reduced admission after 5pm)
September weekends: 9am to 5pm
October weekends (until October 11): 10am to 5pm
Thanksgiving Monday (October 12): 10am to 5pm
October 13: Park closes for the season
What kind of shoes should I wear?
Wear closed-toe shoes you don’t mind getting a little dusty or muddy. The park is built on a working hay farm in the Drumheller Badlands, so the terrain is a mix of gravel, mulch, and grass with some light hiking.
Skip the flip-flops. If you’re planning on Water Wars, bring shoes that can handle getting wet or a backup pair.
And bring sunscreen and a hat. The badlands sun is no joke (and we sell both on-site if you forget).
Can I bring my dog?
Sorry, no dogs or pets are allowed on-site. We love animals, but with our own goats, pigs, sheep, cows, and horses on the farm, we can’t risk the health and safety of our animals or your pets.
Service dogs: Legally certified service dogs are welcome under Alberta’s Service Dogs Act, provided they have valid ID and are presented at admissions. Service dogs must be on a leash at all times. For safety reasons, service dogs may be restricted from certain areas of the park where our farm animals are present.
Emotional support animals are not classified as service dogs under Alberta law and are not permitted on-site.
Can I bring my own food & drink?
Yes, bring whatever you like. We have picnic seating throughout the park, covered seating near the food shack and the sugar shack, and day-use fire pits in Shady Grove if you want to make an afternoon of it.
The one exception: no outside alcohol on-site.
We also have food and drinks for sale on-site (pizza, snacks, cold drinks) if you’d rather not pack a cooler. See the food and drink menu.
Are you wheelchair accessible?
We’re a working hay farm in the Badlands, so the terrain isn’t fully paved. Here’s what we offer to help:
• A gravel path from the parking lot to the main gate
• Mulched paths within the park (firm in dry weather, can soften in rain)
• A free shuttle from the parking lot to the main gate. Call 1-403-802-6008 to request one in advance or ask at the gate.
• Accessible washroom and changing area in our family washroom beside the food shack
Some attractions are more accessible than others. The Barnyard animal areas, picnic spots, and main viewing areas are generally manageable. The Boomtown obstacle course and parts of the Boneyard involve uneven ground or steps.
If you have specific accessibility questions, give us a call before your visit. We’d rather talk it through than have you guess.
Do you have family or group rates?
Yes, here’s how it works:
Groups of 10 or more: Call our admissions office at 1-403-802-6008 to set up a group rate. Pricing depends on group size and timing.
Day pass to season pass upgrade: If you buy a day pass and decide you want to come back, you can upgrade to a season pass before you leave by paying just the difference. No need to pay full price twice.
Corporate event rentals and team-building: Email adventures@barneysdrumheller.com or call 1-403-802-6008 to talk through your event.
Do you accept walk-ins or online tickets only?
Both. Walk-ins are always welcome at the admissions booth. We accept cash, debit, credit, and tap at the gate.
Buying online ahead of time skips the line and gets you straight through the gate. Buy passes online.
Is parking free?
Yes, free parking for all visitors. Pull right in.
If you need extra help getting from the parking lot to the main gate, we offer a free shuttle. Call 1-403-802-6008 to request one in advance, or ask at the gate.
How much does it cost?
We keep it simple. Ages 4 and up pay the same price. Kids under 4 are free.
Day Pass: $26.62 when booking online ($24.04 + $2.58 online booking fee)
Full Season Access Pass: $57.09 when booking online ($53.00 + $4.09 online booking fee)
Two attractions have a small extra fee: Water Wars ($5 for 4 buckets of balloons) and the Morse Gemstone Mine ($8.57 per mine, per person). Food and drinks from our on-site food services are also separate, though you’re welcome to bring your own.
Group of 10 or more? Call us at 1-403-802-6008 for a group rate.
Buy passes online to skip the line at the gate.
How long should we plan to spend at the park?
Plan for at least 3 hours. Most families end up staying longer once they get into it.
With 30+ activities across the Boneyard, the Barnyard, and Boomtown, plus food, animal areas, and the Shady Grove picnic spots, a half-day is the minimum and a full day is the sweet spot. If you want to hit Water Wars and the Morse Gemstone Mine too, lean toward a full day.
What if it rains? Are you still open?
We’re open rain or shine. Sunny days are obviously the favourite, but we’ve had some great days in the light rain too. (If it’s really rainy we probably won’t open as it gets pretty muddy on site)
The only time we close mid-day is for a serious thunderstorm, lightning, or hail. Safety first, for our visitors, our staff, and our animals. If we close early due to weather, your day pass becomes a same-day return pass so you can come back when conditions improve.
How long is a season pass valid?
A Full Season Access Pass is valid for the entire 2026 season (June 13 through October 13). Use it as many times as you want, all season long.
Season passes for the following year typically go on sale around Christmas. Follow us on social or sign up for our email list to be the first to know.
Can I get a refund or reschedule?
Our standard policy is non-refundable but transferable. If something comes up, you can move your ticket to a different date in the same season. Give us a call at 1-403-802-6008 and we’ll sort it out.
Weather: If we close mid-day for a storm or other safety reason, your day pass becomes a same-day return pass so you can come back when the park reopens.
Our guarantee: If you visit Barney’s and don’t enjoy yourself, we’ll refund you 100%. We mean it. Talk to our team before you leave.
Can I take photos or use a drone?
Photos are absolutely welcome. Bring your camera, your phone, and your best dinosaur poses.
Drones are not permitted in the park. Between our farm animals and the safety of our visitors, it’s a clear no.
Planning a professional photo shoot? Give us a call ahead at 1-403-802-6008.
What ages is the park best for?
Honestly, there’s something for every age:
• Toddlers and preschoolers (under 4 are free): barnyard animals, baby goats, sunflower patch, gentler play areas
• Kids 4 to 12: dino dig, corn maze, pig races, midway games, candy and pumpkin cannons, obstacle course
• Teens: Boomtown obstacle course, Water Wars, Morse Gemstone Mine, the photo ops
• Adults: historical context, peaceful Shady Grove picnic areas, Bleriot Ferry tribute, badlands views, fire pits
Most families with kids between 3 and 14 get the most out of a full visit.
Are strollers and wagons allowed?
Yes, both are welcome throughout the park. Most paths are stroller-friendly, though a few of the rougher trails through the Boneyard and Boomtown work better with a wagon or a sturdier off-road stroller.
Don’t have one? We have wagons available for rent on-site.
Do you have nursing or changing facilities?
Yes. Changing tables are available in our family washroom, beside the food shack. If you’d like a quieter spot for nursing, ask any staff member and we’ll point you toward a good option.
Are washrooms available throughout the park?
Yes. Our main washrooms, including an accessible family washroom with a changing table, are located beside the food shack.
Is there shade or shelter from the sun?
Yes, in a few spots:
• Shady Grove: Our shaded picnic area with day-use fire pits.
• Food shack and sugar shack: Covered seating areas nearby.
• DinoWalk: Winding path through the trees with natural shade.
That said, much of the park is in open badlands sun. Bring sunscreen, hats, and water (we sell all three on-site if you forget).
Is there first aid on-site?
Yes. We have trained staff and first aid stations at three locations:
• Admissions
• Food shack
• Barnyard
For anything more serious, the Drumheller Health Centre is about 10 minutes away.
Do you sell sunscreen, snacks, or merchandise?
Yes to all of the above. Our on-site shop carries sunscreen, hats, water, snacks, and Barney’s merch. If you forgot something at home, we’ve probably got you.
Is there cell service or WiFi?
Cell service in the Drumheller Valley is generally OK but can be spotty depending on your provider, especially in some corners of the park.
We don’t offer guest WiFi at this time. Take it as a chance to unplug for a few hours.
What is Water Wars?
A water balloon battle, played for real.
You and your opponent take opposing battle stations stocked with buckets of water balloons. Each station has a launcher: load a balloon, pull the handle, aim, and fire. Your balloon arcs through the air and lands on your opponent’s station, hitting strategically placed slots and holes that send water through. You might get sprinkled, sprayed, or fully saturated. Retaliation comes quickly.
Cost: $5 for 4 buckets of balloons.
Hours:
• 12pm to 3pm: staffed active play
• Daily demo event 1:30pm to 2pm
• Self-serve outside the 12 to 3 window during regular park hours
Wear shoes that can handle getting wet, or bring a backup pair.
What is the Morse Gemstone Mine?
Pan for real gemstones from a sluice and take home what you find. A nod to Drumheller’s coal mining and prospecting history, scaled for kids and curious adults alike.
Cost: $8.57 per mine, per person.
Hours: 11am to 4:30pm during regular park hours.
When are the pig races and animal feedings?
We run scheduled activities throughout the day, including the famous Ol’ Ma Gilbert’s Pig Races, animal feedings, the candy cannon, and the pumpkin cannon.
Check the Daily Activity Schedule at admissions or on the park map when you arrive to see the day’s lineup.
Can adults try the Boomtown obstacle course?
Yes. Boomtown is for everyone. Some of our most enthusiastic obstacle course runs are adults trying to keep up with their kids.
Do you do school field trips?
Yes, we offer two structured school programs:
Barney’s Barnyard Bonanza ($25 per student, max 30 students). A hands-on program covering plant and animal life cycles. Students meet barnyard babies and plant their own sunflower to take home.
Gems and Grit ($25 per student, max 30 students). A hands-on mining history experience where students pan for their own gemstones and take home an identification card with their finds.
Student admission is included in the program prices. Meals are an additional $10 per person (hot dog, small chips, drink).
Email adventures@barneysdrumheller.com to book.
Can I book a birthday party at Barney’s?
Yes, birthday packages are available. Each package includes:
• Park admission for your group
• Free admission for the birthday person
• A private area for your group
• Food available on-site, or you’re welcome to bring your own food and cake
Pricing and group size depend on your plans. Email adventures@barneysdrumheller.com or call 1-403-802-6008 to talk through what you’re celebrating.
We also host family reunions, anniversaries, team-building days, and pretty much any reason to celebrate.
Can you host corporate events or private rentals?
Yes. We host corporate retreats, team-building events, and private group rentals. Email adventures@barneysdrumheller.com or call 1-403-802-6008 to discuss what you have in mind.
Who built the park?
Canalta, a Drumheller-based company, built Barney’s Adventure Park. We wanted to do something that honoured the Valley’s dinosaur, coal mining and agricultural history while giving families something fun to do during their visit. The park sits on what used to be a working hay farm, and we’ve kept the working-farm vibe (animals included) intentionally.
Will you be back next year?
Yes. Barney’s operates seasonally, typically running mid-June through mid-October each year. Season passes for the following season usually go on sale around Christmas. Follow us on social or sign up for our email list to be the first to know.
